About The Position

The After School Care & Friday Enrichment Program Coordinator is responsible for weekday aftercare supervision Monday through Thursday and Friday wilderness programming for three grade-band tiers: TEA Trailblazers, Wayfinders, and Summit Corps. This role requires a combination of steady, structured indoor supervision and outdoor trip leadership. Fieldwork guiding experience is a direct asset to the Friday portion of this role. The program runs for 35 weeks, with a start date of August 15th and approximately 40 hours of prep time in August. Weekly hours range from a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 29 with approval. The coordinator must maintain CPR/First Aid and, where applicable, Wilderness First Aid certification. The role is licensed to supervise up to 14 students independently, with a second staff member hired if enrollment exceeds this number for the weekday aftercare block.

Requirements

  • Experience working with school-age children in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting preferred.
  • Outdoor leadership or fieldwork guiding experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills across both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple age groups simultaneously while maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency or challenging situations, indoors and in the field.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required; Wilderness First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and meet applicable state licensing requirements.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, hike, and actively participate in student activities for extended periods, indoors and on trail.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions, including full-day outdoor exposure on Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage students during all weekday aftercare hours (Monday-Thursday, 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM).
  • Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all students in the program.
  • Monitor attendance and release students only to authorized parents or guardians.
  • Collaborate with the Activities Director on aftercare curriculum and enrichment planning.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate activities across a mixed-age group, adapting for developmental needs.
  • Implement positive behavior management, addressing wellness concerns and escalating when appropriate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program space.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school staff on student needs and program updates.
  • Plan and lead Friday wilderness programming across its three tiers: TEA Trailblazers (PreK–3), Wayfinders (4–8), and Summit Corps (9–12).
  • Organize and directly supervise outdoor outings, hikes, and skill-building activities, ensuring safety procedures and permissions are followed.
  • Sequence skill progression across the 35-week program arc, focusing on physical competence, judgment, navigation, endurance, and leadership.
  • Organize and supervise high school student volunteers as programmatic support and near-peer mentorship.
  • Identify and coordinate a designated backup guide for Fridays when fieldwork guiding responsibilities require coverage.
  • Foster teamwork, respect, and positive peer interaction across both weekday and Friday programming.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
