About The Position

St. Patrick Catholic School in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking an exceptional individual for the position of After Care Leader. St. Patrick Catholic School provides a beautiful education, teaching the “whole child” through an outstanding academic program, spiritual formation, athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular activities. We are a family-oriented community and strive to know, love, and serve God in everything we do. The After School Care Worker position is part-time and is responsible for the supervision of students in the program. This position will supervise all activities that take place as part of the program and ensure the safety of each child attending the school’s extended care program. The position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Requirements

  • High Diploma with demonstrated relevant equivalent experience in working with school-age children and/or youth development
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Texas driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Understand and apply basic child and adolescent development principles
  • Communicate and develop positive relationships with youth
  • Adapt, facilitate, and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the group
  • Involve and empower youth
  • Identify potential risk factors (in a program environment) and take measures to reduce risk
  • Care for and work with families and community
  • Work as part of a team and shows professionalism
  • Demonstrate the attributes and qualities of a positive role model
  • Interact with and relate to youth in ways that support asset building
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
  • Must have good written and verbal skills
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuous growth in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and the Diocese of Corpus Christi
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service of the organization
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach in interactions and undertakings, and promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization
  • Differentiates lessons and activities so they are appropriate for students of various ages and with various abilities, and participates in and evaluates the effectiveness of activities and events
  • Prepares and gathers materials and supplies prior to programs daily
  • Assists and supervises children during all activities following child care guidelines in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children primary focus
  • Assists children with meal/snack time
  • Follows appropriate cleaning and sanitizing procedures to clean-up site when children depart; inspects and returns supplies to appropriate place
  • Ensures that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately maintained
  • Assists in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents assigned by site coordinator
  • Builds a positive relationship with each after-school participant and fosters positive connections between participants
  • Actively engages with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group
  • Communicates appropriate information to parents and interacts professionally and appropriately with children, parents, school staff, community members and partners
  • Effectively manages assigned group; maintains and enforces progressive discipline policy; and reports observations and incidents to site coordinator or school principal
