After-School Assistant Group Leader - Kid Care
About The Position

The Andover Recreation Division’s Kid Care Program provides a safe, fun, and engaging after-school experience for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 through games, activities, homework support, outdoor play, and enrichment opportunities. Assistant Group Leaders supervise and engage children, promote positive behavior, support daily activities, and help create a welcoming environment where every child can learn, grow, and have fun. The program operates at all five Andover elementary schools. We’ll do our best to place staff at a preferred location, based on program needs and availability. This is an ideal opportunity for students and others interested in education, sports and recreation, childcare, or community-based work who want to build their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Interest in working with elementary-aged children in a group setting.
- Responsible, dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with children, families, and coworkers.
- Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with children through babysitting, volunteering, coaching, tutoring, camps, or similar activities is helpful but not required.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain certification if required.
Responsibilities
- Assist with supervising and engaging elementary-aged children in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Help lead age-appropriate games, crafts, recreational activities, and enrichment opportunities under the direction of program staff.
- Support homework time, snack time, outdoor play, and other components of the daily program.
- Serve as a positive role model and encourage respectful, appropriate behavior.
- Maintain awareness of participants and promptly bring safety or behavioral concerns to a Group Leader or supervisor.
- Help prepare, organize, and clean program spaces, equipment, and activity materials.
- Communicate positively and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Follow all program policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
