Affordability Cost Modeler

RTX•McKinney, TX
•$107,500 - $204,500•Hybrid

About The Position

At RTX, the Affordability Cost Modeler supports the delivery of mission-effective systems at optimal lifecycle costs. The role influences engineering, production, and sustainment decisions through advanced cost modeling and works across engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance teams to enable cost-informed decisions throughout program phases. The position develops and executes cost models using engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing data; evaluates alternative architectures, manufacturing approaches, supplier strategies, and sustainment concepts; and produces analyses and reports for program reviews, customer briefings, estimating, proposals, and major program milestones. It is based in McKinney, Texas, and is described as hybrid in the position details, although the posting’s later role classification section identifies it as onsite. Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret clearance is required before the start date, and U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience developing and executing complex cost or engineering models.
  • Experience with cost modeling methodologies, including parametric, engineering-based, and activity-based approaches.
  • Experience interpreting technical baselines, system architectures, manufacturing flows, and sustainment concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with modeling automation or data processing tools.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance prior to the start date; the clearance type is DoD Secret and it must be active and existing on day one.
  • U.S. citizenship, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cost estimation tools, statistical analysis packages, or engineering modeling environments.
  • Familiarity with system architecture trades, performance/cost trade-offs, or digital engineering workflows.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, supply chain cost drivers, or operations optimization.
  • Understanding of sustainment modeling, reliability analysis, or operations and support (O&S) cost estimation concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute advanced cost models using engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing data to support affordability activities, including Design-to-Cost (DTC) and Cost-as-an-Independent-Variable (CAIV).
  • Lead cost evaluations of alternative system architectures, manufacturing approaches, supplier strategies, and sustainment concepts.
  • Perform sensitivity analyses, parametric modeling, and scenario-based assessments to quantify cost impacts and support trade studies.
  • Interpret technical baselines, system architectures, bill of materials (BOM) structures, and manufacturing readiness levels to inform cost model assumptions.
  • Generate affordability reports, cost-driver summaries, and lifecycle cost visualizations for program reviews and customer briefings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate accurate data and maintain modeling consistency across program phases.
  • Contribute to estimating, proposal development, and affordability inputs for major program milestones and bid reviews.
