About The Position

The School of Film, Television, and Media Arts at Emerson College seeks applications for an affiliated (part-time) instructor in Fall 2026 to teach the course VM215 History of South and Southeast Asian Arts. This course introduces art and architecture of the South and Southeast Asian regions, ranging from present-day Pakistan and India into Vietnam and Indonesia. It examines the archaeology of pre-historical and proto-historical cultures and the sacred structures of several major world religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Jain, and Islam. The course also considers issues of identity, empire, modernism, and post-colonial politics in art made under local rulers, during European and US colonialism, and in the present. It fulfills the Aesthetic Perspective and the Global Diversity requirement. Emerson College is an EOE and committed to the standards of Inclusive Excellence. Requirements

  • Relevant professional and/or academic background in film, media and/or communications
  • Teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses and/or duties as specified in the schedule and contract
  • Select texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans
  • Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course description, learning objectives, course calendar, course requirements, texts, and other materials, grading policy and the required accessibility and plagiarism statements
  • Be available for student consultation through email and scheduled office hours
  • Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit grades online by the deadlines established by the College
  • Submit student work to department for departmental assessment process
