About The Position

Quartus Engineering Incorporated is seeking an Aerospace Project Manager for their San Diego office. This role involves leading small to mid-sized engineering projects and supporting larger programs as a deputy. The Project Manager will be the main client contact, responsible for managing project scope, schedule, and budget from conception to completion. This includes planning, delegating tasks, ensuring quality, mentoring junior staff, and applying technical expertise. Success requires strong communication, leadership, and time management skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, subject to change based on business needs.

Requirements

  • BS in an engineering field – Aerospace, Mechanical, Optical, Electrical or similar discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Aerospace Optical Systems (preferred), Opto-Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Optical, Electrical or similar.
  • Experience managing a team of interdisciplinary engineers on technical development programs.
  • Experience including scope, budget and schedule management.
  • Strong aptitude for customer interaction and communication.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident).

Responsibilities

  • Lead small to mid-sized engineering projects and support larger programs as a deputy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Quartus and clients, managing expectations.
  • Plan and execute projects from start to finish.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Delegate tasks and ensure quality.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Apply strong technical expertise to drive complex, challenging work.
  • Manage project staffing.
  • Track labor, material, and expense costs against developed cost estimate baselines.
  • Manage bill of material suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Handle issues or nonconformances as they occur and react quickly towards resolution.
  • Organize and lead internal and external weekly project status meetings.
  • May be a key technical contributor on project work, performing engineering tasks such as design, analysis, hardware build and test.
  • Deliver project performance feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and transparent work environment.
  • May be expected to mentor Project Administrators.
  • Work with program managers, engineering, and sales to write effective proposals, including defining scope, estimating costs, generating a schedule, and defining technical content.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating and enhancing program management methodologies, tools, and processes.
