About The Position

PPG's Aerospace Business is looking for an experienced Production Supervisor - 3rd Shift to lead a specialized manufacturing team responsible for stretching, grinding, and polishing acrylic and polycarbonate materials to meet precise optical specifications. In this role, you will oversee critical processes that transform raw plastic materials into high-performance optical components for aerospace applications. You will work onsite in our Grand Prairie, TX plant and report to the Sr. Operations Manager. This is a 3rd shift role: Monday - Friday, 9:00pm - 5:30am.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in plastics manufacturing or optical components production.
  • Knowledge of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems.
  • Familiarity with quality control systems and statistical process control.
  • Experience monitoring, tracking, and continually improving the total cost equation.
  • Experience with production planning and scheduling systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Materials Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with optical testing equipment and measurement techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of plastic stretching processes and material orientation effects helpful.
  • Background in aerospace, automotive, or precision optics manufacturing a plus.
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience preferred.
  • Understanding of surface metrology and optical measurement systems preferred.
  • Understanding of surface finishing techniques and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of 2nd shift technicians in achieving precise optical requirements including clarity, surface finish, and dimensional tolerances
  • Oversee stretching operations to achieve required material properties and optical characteristics.
  • Manage grinding processes to achieve specified surface profiles and dimensional accuracy.
  • Direct polishing operations to meet stringent optical clarity and surface quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with optical specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain specialized equipment including stretching machines, grinding systems, and polishing equipment.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to verify optical properties meet specifications through testing and inspection.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance optical quality, reduce cycle times, and minimize material waste.
  • Coordinate production schedules to meet customer delivery commitments.
  • Train team members on proper handling techniques for optical materials and equipment operation.
