About The Position

The Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer will work with customer personnel to provide on-site, engineering fabrication, research, development and test support at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS), Florida. The focus will be on designing, developing and performing M&S on specialized and/or "one of a kind" components required to integrate unique sensing technologies into various collection platforms.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must have an active TS/SCI with CI Poly clearance.
  • BA/BS in Aerospace/Mechanical engineering with four (4) or more years related experience.
  • Provide mechanical engineering planning.
  • CAD 3D modeling experience.
  • Participate in integrated process teams (IPTs) to build and update technology management plans/concepts/roadmaps to guide multi-year technology development efforts.
  • Perform analysis of intelligence collection operational requirements (intelligence collector and intelligence customer requirements) and provide input for system capability requirements documents to include specification of key performance parameters, initial capability descriptions and capability development documents.
  • Perform mechanical engineering activities to include functional needs analysis and allocation for translation of intelligence and operational requirements into system design solutions (e.g. cost analysis and cost-performance tradeoff analysis, consideration of production, life cycle logistics for follow-on procurement of operational systems, risk analysis and mitigation and ensuring adequacy and compatibility of C4 and data processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) architectures for developmental systems).
  • Provide analysis and control for mechanical engineering aspects/activities related to on-going technology development projects to ensure designs meet user requirements and are implemented with proper configuration management, document control, fabrication, assembly and test of final products
  • Participate in trade studies to solve technical problems and identify preferred solutions.
  • Participate in technical reviews to assess project progress from design through development and delivery.
  • Support development of company policies, procedures, and guidance (may not apply to all job families).

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce unique and specialized parts using a variety of materials and machines including but not limited to 3D printers, CNC, water jets, CNC router.
  • Coordinate outsourcing of fabrication to other organizations as needed/directed.
  • Provide QC/QA to parts produced in house and/or externally.
  • Provide support for in-house technology initiatives and for assessment and monitoring of the adequacy and feasibility of technical proposals and on-going projects by other parties in Government, academia and industry.
  • Provide engineering support for precision machining, measuring and set up of a variety of manual and CNC machines to perform such operations as drilling, boring and milling on raw stock, parts, castings, dies, machine fixtures and other type tools.
  • Familiarization and operation of various types of design software to produce unique products.
  • Familiar with hand tools to form, sharpen, grind cut and drill.
  • Develop projects in accordance with broad specifications and design criteria including verbal instructions, rough drawings and blueprints as available.
  • Design complicated parts having many interrelated dimensions, compound angles, irregular surfaces, close tolerances, the use of hand tools and/or the setup and operation of various machine tools.
  • Design/improvise production aids as necessary to facilitate operations.
  • Experience in utilizing precision measuring instruments.
  • Suggest changes in design involving production and process of manufacture to proper personnel.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of integrated rapid prototyping team integrating inventory items to best develop rapid prototype solutions.
  • Must be able to successfully work in high tempo environment creating efficient well documented and successful inventory solutions resolving unique issues.
  • Comply with CCAFS industrial hygiene requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the REPD mission.
