About The Position

Supports tooling engineers with planning, testing and related activities within assigned projects. Builds and repairs custom machine shop tools using machining equipment and measuring instruments. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify prototypes, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and molds. Calculates the dimensions and tolerances required to set up the machine tools. Operates lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines to produce tools.

Requirements

  • Apprenticeship 3–5 years, hands-on training combined with classroom instruction
  • Technical/trade school certificate 6 months–2 years Focused CNC/machining programs
  • Associate degree (e.g., Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Tech) 2 years Broader theory plus hands-on
  • Experience with Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP)
  • Experience with Fiberglass (GFRP)
  • Experience with Aramid composites
  • Experience with High-performance thermoplastics
  • Experience with Phenolics & G-10/FR-4
  • Experience with Honeycomb core
  • Urethane and Related Materials Experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably certified with NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills)
  • Preferably certified with AS9100 / GD&T training
  • CAM software proficiency (Mastercam, Esprit, NX)
