Aerospace Engineering Intern 1

L3Harris Technologies•Los Angeles, CA
•$25 - $48

About The Position

The Aerospace Engineering Intern supports structural analysis of aircraft modifications, including design support and preparation of technical documentation necessary to ensure airworthiness. The role involves determining stress levels in primary and secondary aircraft structures, systems, and equipment from applied and induced loads, then comparing those stresses with material properties to predict failure and structural instabilities while considering applicable failure theories.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field at an accredited university.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to CAD or analysis (FEA) tools, and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures, and mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection and/or automation, and software programming for numerical analysis.
  • Ability to apply Structural Mechanics principles to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities.
  • Ability to generate free body diagrams, determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of one programming language.
  • Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis of aircraft modifications.
  • Provide design support and prepare technical documentation necessary to ensure airworthiness.
  • Determine stress levels in primary and secondary aircraft structures, systems, and equipment resulting from applied and induced loads.
  • Compare stresses with material properties to predict failure and structural instabilities while considering applicable failure theories.

Benefits

  • Relocation stipend
