Aerospace Engineering Intern 1

L3Harris•Canoga Park, CA

About The Position

The Aerospace Engineering Intern supports structural analysis of aircraft modifications, including design support and preparation of technical documentation necessary to ensure airworthiness. The role determines stress levels in primary and secondary aircraft structure, systems, and equipment resulting from applied and induced loads, then compares those stresses with material properties to predict failure and structural instabilities, with consideration of applicable failure theories.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field at an accredited university.
  • Must be able to apply Structural Mechanics principles to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities.
  • Must be able to generate free-body diagrams, determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of one programming language.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to CAD or analysis (FEA) tools, and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures, and mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection and/or automation, and software programming for numerical analysis.
  • Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analysis of aircraft modifications.
  • Provide design support and prepare technical documentation necessary to ensure airworthiness.
  • Determine stress levels in primary and secondary aircraft structures, systems, and equipment resulting from applied and induced loads.
  • Compare stress levels with material properties to predict failure and structural instabilities, considering applicable failure theories.

Benefits

  • Relocation stipend
  • 401(k)
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
  • Company-paid holidays
