About The Position

Torch Technologies is seeking an Entry-Level Aerospace 6DOF Simulation Engineer I to join their team. This role involves developing six degrees of freedom (6DOF) models for flight software testing and evaluation for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures (TC) program. The simulations will be developed for various vehicles and configured for both flight-software-in-the-loop (SIL) and processor-in-the-loop (PIL). The engineer will also assist in the research, design, development, and testing of aerospace systems, evaluate new technologies, and perform risk assessments. This is an entry-level position with opportunities for growth and development within an employee-owned company.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, C++, Python, FORTRAN, and/or other programming language(s) required.
  • Ability to obtain a final security clearance to access classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or coursework in modeling flight dynamics, propulsion, aerodynamics, actuator systems, and/or GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control).
  • Currently enrolled/working towards a Master's Degree.
  • Demonstrates ability to put theory into practice and verify predictions against test data.
  • Strong background in one or more computer programming languages.
  • Able to demonstrate a willingness to work in a technical role and continue to expand technical knowledge.
  • Experience in engineering, or related weapon systems development, integration, or test and evaluation field is desired but not required.
  • Active clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop six degrees of freedom (6DOF) models to test and evaluate flight software for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures (TC) program.
  • Develop simulations for a variety of vehicles and model them end-to-end with both flight-software-in-the-loop (SIL) and processor-in-the-loop (PIL) configurations.
  • Assist in the research, design, development, and testing of structures, propulsion units, and guidance and control subsystems for aircraft, missiles, or spacecraft.
  • Assist in the routine analysis of aerospace product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Evaluate new technologies of routine complexity for application in improving the design of aerospace systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate testing of aerospace systems that are routine in nature.
  • Perform standard risk assessment of aerospace systems and generate risk mitigation plans and strategies.
  • Write scripts for data conversion/plotting.
  • Perform minor 6DOF model/data updates.
  • Develop high-fidelity models based on researching textbooks, technical publications, and/or vendor documentation.
