About The Position

This position reports to the Engineering Manager, with a very close working relationship with the Business Unit Manager, and various engineering disciplines supporting the business unit. The Aeronautical Engineer will support ongoing and new projects related to aircraft air data sensor design, including pitot and pitot static probes and Angle-of-Attack (AOA) sensors. The primary focus will be aerodynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design. The Aeronautical Engineer is expected to provide technical support in both R&D and new business pursuits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering
  • Must be able to work with ITAR products and related data without restriction.
  • Proficient in data analysis, detailed CAD modeling, and simulation tools such as: MATLAB, ANSYS/Fluent, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of compressible airflow using commercial CFD code and meshing tools.
  • Proficient with ASME Y14.5 and use of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Strong technical writing skills including procedure creation, and requirements and specifications development, both for internal designs and external contractors.
  • Excellent writing, oral, and reporting skills: produce/present technical documentation, customer briefings.
  • Flexible and able to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with core manufacturing processes and techniques is preferred (machining, welding, brazing, assembly, and testing)
  • Experience with the design of FAA certified products, preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAE Aerospace Standards AS8006A, AS5562, and FAA TSO C16b, preferred.
  • Experience with aircraft systems, flight testing, and wind tunnel testing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct aerothermal analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods with oversight from senior engineers.
  • Support of wind tunnel test campaigns at aerodynamic and icing facilities, including test condition generation and results analysis.
  • Create and maintain 3D and 2D design definitions in SolidWorks. Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) where appropriate.
  • Conduct technical design reviews and FMEAs to identify critical design factors and risks that impact product performance and manufacturability.
  • Understand manufacturing capabilities and incorporate manufacturing input into the design process.
  • Design to meet DO-160 or MIL-STD-810 testing standards.
  • Generate requirements for contracted services and oversee the quality and timeliness of the contracted services.
  • Drive simultaneous projects through the design cycle to completion.
  • Utilize structured problem solving to identify and eliminate the root cause of technical issues that arise.
  • Provide obsolescence and sustaining engineering support for legacy products.
