Aeronautical Engineer (Aero & Thermodynamics) - Early Career

Lockheed MartinMarietta, GA
Onsite

About The Position

As a CFD Engineer (Level 1) you will join the Air Mobility and Maritime Missions (AMMM) line of business, supporting the C130J transport aircraft family and its derivatives, as well as emerging Advanced Development Programs (ADP) via stretch assignments. Working under senior CFD and aerodynamic leads, you will develop high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models, generate mesh, execute flow-solver simulations, and create visualizations that drive design decisions and performance assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree (Aerospace or Mechanical)
  • Familiarity with Aerodynamics and/or Fluid Dynamics
  • Microsoft Office Tools
  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with running CFD analysis to inform aircraft design cycles
  • Experience with wind tunnel test support
  • Familiarity with at least one coding or scripting language (Python, Bash Scripting)
  • Willing and able to support extended and off shift work schedules
  • Familiarity with post-processing tools for CFD, such Tecplot and/or FieldView
  • Experience with CAD packages such as CATIA or SOLIDWORKS
  • Willing to travel to support off-site testing (wind tunnel test)
  • Familiarity with utilizing High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Operating in a Linx work environment
  • Ability to effectively document and accurately convey technical data
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills to interface with multifunctional teams

Responsibilities

  • Generating high quality meshes (structured, unstructured, and hybrid), ensuring they meet solver specific criteria.
  • Setup, run, and monitor both steady-state and time accurate CFD simulations using tools such as FUN3D, CFD++, and inhouse codes.
  • Produce clear flow-field visualizations (including streamlines, contour maps, and velocity vectors) and compile these into concise reports for design reviews.
  • Analyze simulation results, crosscheck against wind-tunnel or flight test data, and offer engineering recommendations for design refinements.
  • Document mesh parameters, solver settings, and post-processing procedures in line with Lockheed Martin engineering standards.
  • Collaborate closely with aerodynamic, structural, propulsion, and systems teams on C-130J, its derivatives, and ADP projects to support multidisciplinary decisions.
  • Actively engage in training, workshops, and continuous learning activities to stay current with emerging CFD methodologies and high performance computing practices.
