About The Position

CUBRC’s Ahmic Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamic Balance Technician to support the assembly and calibration of multi-component force measurement systems. This role focuses on strain gage installation, fine lead wire routing, solder junction preparation, bridge wiring, and precision balance assembly. The hardware you build will support hypersonic vehicles, space re-entry systems, and advanced aerospace research programs conducted in some of the nation’s most sophisticated wind tunnels and flight environments. Ahmic Aerospace is a small, focused engineering team based in Dayton, Ohio. We design and build advanced aerodynamic instrumentation for extreme aerospace environments. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with fine-scale soldering and micro wiring
  • Ability to work under magnification for extended periods
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and engineering drawings and process documentation
  • Experience using digital multimeters and power supplies to verify conformity
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
  • Must meet internal solder and workmanship standards
  • Ability to lift and control 50 lbs test weights
  • Must be able to obtain and remain eligible for a US Department of Defense security clearance during the course of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing strain gages preferred
  • Familiarity with Wheatstone bridge circuits and force measurement systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare balance components and surfaces for strain gage bonding
  • Install foil and semiconductor strain gages per specified temperature, pressure, and curing requirements
  • Route, trim, and solder fine-gauge lead wires (30–42 AWG) to solder junctions and terminal points
  • Follow wiring diagrams and perform detailed wiring under stereo microscope
  • Install interconnection bridge wiring and temperature compensation circuits
  • Carefully assemble tight-tolerance mechanical balance components
  • Set up calibration fixtures and assist with static load calibration of multi-axis balances
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and refurbish force measurement systems following wind tunnel testing
