About The Position

The Advocate provides direct support, case management, and guidance to community members seeking assistance through Mixteca's programs. This position focuses on helping participants identify their goals, access resources, and navigate complex systems such as health, education, and public services. The Advocate works to ensure that every participant receives culturally and linguistically appropriate support, fostering empowerment, self-sufficiency, and community connection.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field (or equivalent experience) and/or 2 years of experience providing case management, advocacy, or direct support in a community-based setting.
Knowledge of community resources, social services, and systems serving immigrant and Indigenous populations.
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Experience maintaining accurate documentation and using data systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multicultural team.
Bilingual English/Spanish required
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and immigrant rights.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in an Indigenous language preferred.

Responsibilities

Conduct intakes and needs assessments to understand participants’ goals, strengths, and challenges.
Provide orientation and information about Mixteca’s programs and community resources.
Offer individualized support and advocacy to help participants access services and overcome barriers.
Assist participants in navigating public benefits and community resources, including completing applications, understanding processes, and promoting self-advocacy and informed decision-making.
Maintain accurate and confidential participant records, including intakes, progress notes, referrals, and outcomes, in accordance with organizational standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local resources and benefits available to immigrant and low-income families.
Connect participants to appropriate internal programs and external services, ensuring warm handoffs.
Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations to strengthen referral networks and enhance service coordination.
Conduct outreach to promote Mixteca’s programs and connect community members to available resources.
Represent Mixteca at community events, workshops, and resource fairs to strengthen visibility and engagement.
Provide general administrative support to the team, including scheduling, data entry, and report preparation.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational needs.
