About The Position

Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) is a national nonprofit that provides community-based alternatives to youth incarceration and residential placement. Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Harrisburg, PA, YAP partners with youth justice, child welfare, behavioral health, and education systems to deliver individualized, wraparound services that keep youth safely in their homes and communities. YAP’s model focuses on building strong relationships with youth and families, connecting them to local resources, and supporting positive life outcomes through strength-based, culturally responsive approaches. Advocates work directly in the community to help participants develop skills, meet goals, and strengthen family and community connections.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Must be extremely organized
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be professional, flexible, and have the ability to work independently
Flexible Schedule; Must be available evenings and weekends
Experience in community work and knowledge of community resources.
Proficient in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
Position requires reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance coverage

Nice To Haves

Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
experience using an electronic health record (EHR) is a plus.
Bi-Lingual (Spanish Speaking) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

Initiate, organize, plan, develop, and implement direct advocacy services to assigned participants and their families.
Serve as a positive role model for youth in the community, school, and home settings.
All service plans will be based on a strength-based approach using the wrap around model.
