About The Position

WEAVE, founded in 1978, is Sacramento’s primary provider of services supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. The organization offers 24/7 support and response, an emergency safehouse program, counseling, legal services, and much more to some of the most vulnerable members of Sacramento’s many communities. WEAVE has grown significantly in recent years, expanding services and capacity to meet community needs. The Intermittent Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Advocate provides crisis intervention, advocacy, information and referral, and follow-up services to survivors of sexual assault. This position plays a vital part of WEAVE's ability to provide trauma-informed responses on a 24/7 basis to victims and survivors of sexual assault in Sacramento County. Intermittent SART Advocates are dispatched to a medical clinic setting when a survivor is referred for a forensic medical exam following a sexual assault. Advocates offer the survivor accompaniment, emotional support, and resources during and immediately following the exam and are responsible for ensuring that full-time WEAVE staff receive appropriate information to follow up with the survivor after the exam.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Able to respond to Sutter BEAR Clinic/hospital within the established timeframe, per agency policy and state law.
  • Communicate advance notice (if possible) to the SART Advocate if unable to respond during a scheduled time slot. Attempt to find coverage if needed.
  • Maintain Peer Counselor certification by completing 8 Sexual Assault Continuing Education hours annually.
  • Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of auto insurance.
  • Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour peer counselor training program and pass background check (post-hiring requirement).
  • Annual completion of WEAVE’s continuing education requirements to maintain Peer Counselor certification.

  • Experience in the social service field is preferred.
  • Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic individual with prior experience or training in social services and a commitment to providing trauma informed responsive services to survivors.
  • Advocates must be able to provide support and resources in a judgement-free way and must be able to interact positively with survivors from a wide range of backgrounds and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accompaniment to the Sutter BEAR Clinic (or hospital if needed) for survivors seeking medical treatment and/or receiving an evidentiary exam.
  • Provide accompaniment to law enforcement or District Attorney interviews if requested.
  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support and information and referral to survivors and their significant others/family members at the clinic/hospital.
  • Advocate on behalf of the survivor, if requested.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed client documentation and submit to SART Advocate for follow-up services.
  • Contact Support & Information Line when accompaniment is completed.
  • Contact Consult with any pertinent information to ensure survivor centered care during follow-up.
  • Communicate with WEAVE¢s Primary SART Advocate, as needed, for support and supervision.
  • Provide professional, culturally responsive and inclusive services.
  • Attend monthly Intermittent Advocate meetings.
  • Commit to a reasonable number of time slots for coverage and sign up for slots in a timely fashion each month.
  • Other duties as assigned.
