Reporting to the Lead, Advocacy & Public Engagement, the Intern, Policy, Advocacy and Government Relations, will be responsible for providing administrative, coordination, and operational support to Save the Children Canada’s (SCC) Policy, Advocacy and Government Relations team. This role will monitor political and policy developments of relevance to Save the Children Canada’s mission and support the smooth functioning of advocacy efforts and interest holder engagement activities, ensuring effective collaboration across teams and with external partners.

Requirements

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canadian accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • be a post-secondary student returning to school in the Fall.
  • Pursuing a degree in Political Sciences, International Development, Global Affairs or similar.
  • Knowledge of Canadian federal political system.
  • Understanding of child’s rights, humanitarian principles and the work of the development and humanitarian sector in Canada and/or abroad.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, adept at synthesizing complex data into clear insights for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for diverse audiences to build strong working relationships across cultural and organizational settings, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated project management experience for task execution of assigned objectives supported by proficiency with MS Office tools and relevant technologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure within tight timelines to achieve SCC objectives.
  • Displays analytical and problem-solving skills to support initiatives with demonstrated adaptability to support change management for successful task implementation.
  • Applies judgment and make sound decisions that are accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct policy analysis on Canadian Government positions related to Save the Children’s work and track developments and trends, through monitoring news, Parliamentary proceedings and relevant reports.
  • Assisting developing advocacy tools and materials, including literature reviews, power mapping, policy briefs, and other research-based documents to support policy initiatives and identification of partners and key advocacy targets.
  • Support the planning and organization of roundtables, events, and external meetings, including outreach and event logistics.

  • This position will be paid $20.00 CAD per hour.
  • 35 hours per week.
  • Duration: June 1 to July 24, 2026 (8 weeks).
