About The Position

For over 160 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have worked to make a difference in the lives of youth in communities across the country. Today, our Clubs are proud to serve 3.6 million youth at over 5,400 Clubs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We are also proud to serve military youth on domestic and international U.S. military bases and through more the more than 250 Clubs on Native Lands. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Reporting to the Lead Director of Government Relations, the Government Relations Intern will support the State Government Relations team, including research, planning and execution of events and campaigns, and other core team responsibilities related to the organization and its mission.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an undergraduate or graduate college/university
  • Basic understanding and interest in advocacy, government relations, public policy & legislative procedure strongly encouraged
  • Interest in nonprofit and youth development
  • Strong interest in project management in nonprofit environments
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills including proofreading, copy editing, writing, and oral communication skills
  • An ability to manage time appropriately.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and maturity and a tolerance for rapid pace and shifting assignments and priorities
  • Flexibility, good judgement, attention to detail
  • A demonstrated commitment and interest in the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America
  • An ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Intern Policy, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Support administration of state assessment tool by helping compile inputs, track responses, and summarize findings to inform tailored rollout strategies.
  • Monitor implementation progress and document insights, risks, and adaptations to support continuous improvement of the rollout framework.
  • Provide logistical and analytical support to Alliance Directors and internal teams to ensure alignment between BGCA and state stakeholders during adoption efforts.
  • Coordinate and track visits of state elected officials’ interaction with Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Research legislation and regulatory comments important to Boys & Girls Clubs at a state, and local level; Conduct web-based and other research as needed on BGCA legislative issues.
  • Attend virtual coalition meetings, and hearings on behalf of BGCA
  • Create and update critical biographical and background information on state leaders and stakeholders.
  • Support distribution of weekly press clips and other thought leadership opportunities.
  • Assist with production and editing of government relations & advocacy materials and internal documents.
  • Support collection of relevant Club and youth stories related to BGCA priority issues to further enhance BGCA advocacy efforts.
  • Provide other program, administrative, and organization-wide support as needed/assigned.
  • Other related/comparable duties as assigned.
