About The Position

The Advisor, Trading Engineering leads and advises the design, development, and delivery of trading software initiatives that support trading operations. As a recognized subject matter expert, this role provides technical thought leadership for creating and maintaining sophisticated applications, leading cross-functional teams to adopt industry standards and emerging technologies that improve trading systems and advance business objectives. The role also leads code reviews and knowledge sharing to strengthen engineering standards and team capabilities. The position focuses on building bespoke software for a trading environment, including designing and integrating services and data platforms, improving existing applications, and delivering solutions from design through production support. It provides technical guidance and mentorship, ensures software quality through testing and reviews, collaborates with traders and other stakeholders, maintains technical documentation, and supports live trading systems and disaster recovery planning.

Requirements

At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
At least 5 years of experience in trading, finance, or a closely related field, included within the overall professional experience requirement.
At least 1 year of hands-on experience using generative AI tools as an integral part of day-to-day software development.
Design maintainable, modular software and well-defined service interfaces, including integration services and event-driven messaging, with clear contracts and secure authentication and authorization.
Work across services and data platforms, including existing applications.
Use Git and GitHub for collaboration and code review.
Build automated unit, component, integration, and end-to-end tests, and apply linting, dependency management, and security checks.
Use AI coding assistants responsibly, explain and defend AI-assisted changes, use only Cargill-provisioned access, and protect confidential information.
Independently deliver outcomes from design through production support, explain technical trade-offs, mentor colleagues, and improve shared engineering practices.
Bring practical delivery experience and the ability to learn Cargill platforms and standards quickly.

Experience with CI/CD, Docker, deployment automation in AWS, identity services, and Datadog observability.

Responsibilities

Lead and advise the design and implementation of robust trading systems, including integrating market data feeds and adapting solutions to trading strategies and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, improving trading applications’ performance, scalability, and reliability.
Validate software architecture for high-frequency trading, real-time data processing, and low-latency communications.
Lead quality practices through rigorous testing, comprehensive code reviews, and adherence to industry standards.
Develop comprehensive test plans, including unit and integration tests, debug complex defects, test high-volume transaction handling, and coordinate with quality assurance teams before deployment.
Engage traders, analysts, and other teams to gather requirements and align technical solutions with business goals.
Influence agile practices such as standups and sprint planning, and lead knowledge sharing through code reviews.
Drive continuous improvement in system performance, scalability, reliability, development processes, and tools; incorporate user and stakeholder feedback.
Establish and maintain technical documentation, guides, operation manuals, compliance information, and onboarding knowledge.
Monitor live trading systems, promptly resolve complex operational problems, minimize downtime and risk, mentor routine maintenance, and lead disaster recovery planning.
Use sound design, debugging, and refactoring practices when modernizing existing applications.
Deliver engineering outcomes independently from design through production support, explain technical trade-offs, and improve shared engineering practices.
