About The Position

As the Advisor, Indigenous Relations & Business Development, you'll support meaningful, respectful, and strategic engagement with Indigenous communities across ATCO's operating areas. You'll play a key role in strengthening relationships, supporting project and regulatory engagement, and advancing economic development initiatives that align with Indigenous community priorities and ATCO's business objectives. Working closely with community partners, leaders, and internal business units, you'll identify opportunities, support project development, and help advance ATCO's commitment to reconciliation and long-term relationship building.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Business, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Indigenous relations, community engagement, business development, stakeholder relations, or partnership management.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous histories, governance structures, rights, cultures, and community priorities.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a community-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, professionalism, and commitment to respectful engagement.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to Indigenous communities and operational sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working directly with Indigenous communities, preferably within the energy, utilities, infrastructure, or related sectors is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, organizations, and partners.
  • Support engagement activities related to operational initiatives, infrastructure projects, permitting processes, and community investment opportunities.
  • Coordinate community meetings, site visits, cultural awareness initiatives, and participation in community events.
  • Identify and support opportunities for Indigenous partnerships, economic development initiatives, and procurement participation.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and other business units to support Indigenous participation in business and project opportunities.
  • Support project planning activities by incorporating Indigenous perspectives and engagement considerations.
  • Assist with consultation documentation and engagement reporting required for regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Track engagement activities, commitments, and community feedback to support effective relationship management.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on Indigenous relations best practices, cultural awareness, and community priorities.
  • Prepare presentations, briefing materials, reports, and communications for leadership and project teams.
  • Support ATCO's commitment to reconciliation through relationship-building, engagement initiatives, and partnership development.
