About The Position

The Advisor I, Rail Contracting supports commercial rail strategies by executing sourcing activities that deliver competitive rail pricing, and enable safe, reliable, and cost-efficient rail movements.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Prior work experience (including internships) in logistics, category management, procurement, and/or sourcing
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Icertis, SAP, and Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
  • 3+ years of experience in negotiations and contracting, preferably in transportation or logistics
  • Experience working with rail suppliers and contracts, including performance metrics
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and implement practical solutions
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop, negotiate, and manage rail agreements, including freight rates, third-party storage, transloading, and related services.
  • Participate in RFPs with rail carriers: gather business requirements, issue RFPs, analyze responses, and recommend optimal rail service and routing options.
  • Monitor rail market dynamics (pricing, competition, capacity) and align contracting decisions with operational and cost objectives.
  • Act as a business partner to internal stakeholders including operations, aligning rail policies, processes, and standards and resolving railcar movement and supply chain issues.
  • Partner with Accounting and business units to resolve invoice discrepancies, accessorial disputes, and routing issues; validate charges against contracts and TMS and support accruals/variance reviews.
  • Support data collection, reporting, and analysis of rail spend, rates, and performance using Excel, Power BI, and other tools to identify efficiency, and risk mitigation opportunities.
  • Work extended or non-standard hours as needed to support time-sensitive contracting activities, business needs, or service disruptions.
  • Support special projects as needed and lead or support process improvement initiatives related to contracting, rate management, documentation, and data quality.
