About The Position

407 ETR is looking for an Advisor, Health & Safety (field) who will be reporting to the Manager, Health, Safety, Environment & Wellness (HSEW), and will be accountable for providing assistance and help with the development and maintenance of the company’s Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) with a particular focus on training, technical and field-level programs. This is an on-site role. The position requires availability during emergency situations and incident investigations to meet corporate safety objectives and needs.

Requirements

  • Diploma and/or Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety, working at heights, traffic control, Book 7, etc.
  • Intermediate computer user, including knowledge of the MS Office package.
  • Skills and experience with databases, including manual data entry.
  • Event scheduling, training coordination, training delivery and recordkeeping.
  • Time-management, multitasking, attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in one or a combination of the following will be considered an asset: IHSA CORTM Auditor or ISO 45001 Auditor
  • First Aid Instructor

Responsibilities

  • Act as a business partner for Highway Operations and Tolling.
  • Advise on safety programs such as construction safety, working at heights, traffic control, Book 7, ergonomics, etc.
  • Prepare materials and participate in or deliver weekly toolbox talk meetings.
  • Conduct scheduled and ad hoc site inspections and audits.
  • Monitor contractors and subcontractors, including occasional night-shift inspections and audits.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations and follow-ups, including corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Assist with modified duty and post-injury return to work programs.
  • Develop and deliver training, including safety orientations.
  • Achieve and maintain the train-the-trainer or authorized facilitator certification to be able to deliver in-house training sessions such as First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), etc.
  • Create and maintain the corporate library of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Toolbox Talks (TBTs).
  • Keep open lines of communication with all stakeholders and advise on associated hazards and recommend controls.
