About The Position

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director (AD), this position will perform Return to Title IV (R2T4) calculation, Post Withdrawals Disbursements (including reporting students to the NSLDS), adjusting aid, run R2T4 queries, maintain database and report productivity stats. In collaboration with the Assistant Director and R2T4 Senior Specialist, review and update (as needed) policies and procedures, and consumer education materials, including website, financial aid publications, R2T4 notifications and training manuals to meet federal/state and refund requirements. Ensure Title IV funds are returned/disbursed within regulatory timeframe. The financial aid Advisor works directly with students to and their families to enhance their understanding of responsibilities as a financial aid recipient. In addition, the advisor will also communicate program eligibility rules to students and families which encompasses scholarships, grants, work study employment, student loans, and state financial aid programs. The incumbent will also support other operations of the office which includes but not limited to client services, verification processing, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), loans, packaging and awarding, workstudy, appeals, appointments and emails, etc. This consists of helping with processing areas as needed and providing support during high need periods. The incumbent will have broad knowledge of financial aid and the surrounding federal, state and institutional regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in student personnel, counseling, business, or related field from an accredited college or university; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of financial aid experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and public presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations pertaining to student aid programs.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • High computer literacy and versatility.
  • Liaison and committee participation skills.
  • Team building and leadership skills.
  • Previous experience within financial aid processing such as R2T4, verification, cost of attendance, and special consideration appeals.
  • Experience with providing presentations in small and large group settings.
  • Possess soft skills to interact with students, families and the campus community.
  • Ability to use evidence-based information to make decisions.
  • The ability to utilize and implement best practices to provide efficient and effective office operations that results in superior student experience.
  • Ability to travel between campuses and/or relocate to another campus (as needed).
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays during peak season.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar Enterprise level software administering financial aid.
