About The Position

Idaho State University is seeking an Advisor/Coordinator for the TRIO program. This role is responsible for establishing, coordinating, and conducting activities to inform low-income, first-generation individuals about financial aid and post-secondary education opportunities. The position involves assisting individuals in selecting and applying to programs, securing financial aid, and providing academic support to ensure participants maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher. The role also includes assisting in the planning and implementation of an 8-week residential summer program, developing and overseeing its instructional component, and collaborating on crisis management plans. This is an on-campus position located in Idaho Falls and requires extensive night and weekend work. The position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have access to and use of own transportation; background check must provide clearance to drive state vehicles for field trips with youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students, staff, and administration.
  • Knowledge of career development, postsecondary courses, and study skills.
  • Experience working with student programming.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for recruitment of potential participants and securing appropriate documentation for client eligibility.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records for participants.
  • Ongoing review of student caseload including: student progress as it relates to needs assessment and learning plan, documentation of students who have moved or left the program, scholarships received, financial aid received, etc.
  • Maintain student files with all necessary physical documentation to ensure compliance with federal requirements.
  • Provide academic assistance at target schools at least weekly, such as class selection for both secondary and postsecondary, study skills, goal setting, time management, academic success, career interest inventories, and technology.
  • Develop and maintain working and trusting relationships with participants while ensuring program services are provided as outlined in the federal grant.
  • Provide information to students regarding post-secondary opportunities including admissions, financial aid, scholarships, ACT/SAT/ALEKS testing, and course selection, scholarship searches.
  • Assist students in completing applications for admissions, scholarships, and financial aid, preparing and sending applications for admission and scholarships, phone and email communication with college officials and administrators.
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in parent nights, career field trips, college campus visits, financial aid nights, service learning events. Events include evening, weekend and overnight activities.
  • Ensures that all their students are informed of event details and event information.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of the 8-week residential summer program.
  • Develop and oversee the residential component of the summer residential program.
  • Work in collaboration with the Assistant Director and three other UB/UBMS related staff to create a plan for crisis management for summer and staff.
  • Staff working for UB/UBMS are asked to be available most hours of the day Sunday night through Friday nights depending on specific duties assigned. Extensive night and weekend work.
  • Actively develops relationships with schools personnel, businesses, and community agencies for partnership in student’s academic achievements and for advancement of the program.
  • Provide follow up of program services to target school personnel.
  • Assist with all required reports.
