About The Position

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking an Advisement/Career Specialist to work with associate degree students in Computer Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technology programs. This full-time role involves tracking and assisting a cohort of students, providing academic and career advisement, and offering registration assistance to help students overcome impediments to registration and graduation. The specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders, including department faculty, the Professional Development Center, the STAR Center, and NYC-based industry partners, to enhance students' job-readiness and prepare them for the workforce. The role also includes providing connections to tutoring and peer mentoring services and serving as a resource for staff and faculty on student advisement issues. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • An understanding of the tech industry and its relationship to higher education.
  • Experience with data and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative written reports).
  • Previous experience with academic advisement, particularly in STEM fields.
  • Previous professional experience in a tech field, preferably within or adjacent to City Tech.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience or ability to quickly learn appropriate advisement and registration tools.

Responsibilities

  • Track and assist a cohort of associate degree students in Computer Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technology programs.
  • Provide academic and career advisement to students.
  • Offer registration assistance to help students overcome impediments to registration and graduation.
  • Work directly with Computer Systems Technology department faculty and students.
  • Collaborate with the College’s Professional Development Center and the College’s STAR Center.
  • Engage with NYC-based industry partners to enhance students’ job-readiness.
  • Ensure students are equipped with the academic and career readiness skills needed for college and the workforce.
  • Provide connections to tutoring and peer mentoring services.
  • Serve as a resource for staff and faculty on student advisement issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
