About The Position

A full-time employee Advisement/Career Specialist is needed to work with associate degree students in Computer Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technology programs. He/she will track and assist a cohort of students and provide academic/career advisement and registration assistance to overcome impediments to registration and graduation. The advisor will work directly with many stakeholders, including Computer Systems Technology department faculty and students, the College’s Professional Development Center, the College’s STAR Center which oversees advisement of incoming freshmen and transfer students, NYC-based industry partners to enhance students’ job-readiness, help ensure these students are equipped with the academic and career readiness skills they need in college, and are prepared to succeed in the workforce. Provide connections to tutoring and peer mentoring services. Serve as a resource for staff and faculty on student advisement issues. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An understanding of the tech industry and its relationship to higher education
  • Experience with data and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative written reports)
  • Previous experience with academic advisement, particularly in STEM fields
  • Previous professional experience in a tech field, preferably within or adjacent to City Tech
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience or ability to quickly learn appropriate advisement and registration tools
