About The Position

USAA is seeking a dedicated Advice Director to serve as the advice expert for a specific subject area. This role has primary responsibility for developing USAA's point-of-view on critical topics impacting members, such as major life events. The position is the lead creator of compelling points-of-view that inform the development of relevant and actionable USAA advice and recommendations embedded in member experience designs, messaging, and other interactions across tools and channels. The role provides technical validation of advice messaging and engages additional expertise as needed to ensure completeness. It also leads the development of scenarios to model the impact of advice recommendations on member financial security. The Advice Director uses internal and external research to understand member advice needs within their subject area, identifying the need for differentiated advice by member group. They develop, coordinate, and maintain USAA's advice point-of-view, coordinating with lines of business and internal partners to ensure alignment. The role collaborates within a matrixed environment to ensure USAA's point-of-view is available to members and employees through appropriate channels. Responsibilities include monitoring current member insights, competitive intelligence, industry and economic outlooks/trends, and regulatory/legislative issues, assessing their impact on points-of-view, and leading appropriate updates. The position also ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree (12 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • 8 or more years of experience specific to the subject matter supported to include: property and casualty, life and health insurance, banking products, retirement and estate planning, investments, and military.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Financial Planner ® Designation.
  • Experience in implementing solutions – bringing things to life.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning, financial advising or similar role.
  • Expert knowledge of content strategy & Search engine optimization best practices.
  • Content creation experience – longform article and/or video script writing.
  • Experience/skills in presentation, including public relations (podcast, radio, speaking events, Media events).
  • 2+ years of Product management and/or Experience Owner experience.
  • Marketing campaign experience (creative or strategy).
  • Sales, service, product domain knowledge.
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.
