About The Position

The Advertising Manager is responsible for all advertising sales operations and revenue generation within the LSU Office of Student Media. This position oversees full-cycle client management from prospecting through contract execution and renewal while supervising student staff and managing advertising products, including major annual events such as the Fall and Spring Living Expos. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Advertising Manager ensures that advertising campaigns are executed effectively and that client needs are met with professionalism, accuracy, and creativity. This role merges the responsibilities of the former Advertising Manager and Advertising Coordinator, requiring both sales leadership and day-to-day execution of campaign operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the advertising sales cycle, including client prospecting, needs assessments, proposal development, and contract execution.
  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of approximately 150–200 advertising clients.
  • Coordinate directly with clients to manage campaigns, resolve issues, and pursue renewal opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on monthly, by semester, and annual sales goals.
  • Create and manage internal job jackets to track campaign performance and workflow.
  • Update and manage materials including the annual media kit, publication calendar, and sales contracts.
  • Collect, organize, and traffic client artwork to meet specifications and deadlines.
  • Use software systems such as Pre1 and Proof Rocket to manage sales records, creative proofs, and scheduling.
  • Troubleshoot technical or content issues with clients and internal design staff.
  • Ensure accuracy of ad placements, production deadlines, and campaign execution across print, digital, broadcast, and social platforms.
  • Coordinate billing processes in partnership with the Business Manager and oversee invoicing accuracy, adhering to university standard business practices.
  • Contribute to the development of ad campaigns and client communications, ensuring consistent messaging and brand integrity across platforms.
  • Retain lead responsibility for the sales, planning, and client coordination of the Fall and Spring Living Expo events specifically tied to advertising packages.
  • Package Living Expo space and related products into multi-platform advertising proposals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all vendor communication before, during, and after each event.
  • Coordinate with the Media Operations Manager for day-of event support, while retaining ownership of all event sales and vendor relationships.
  • Train and supervise student employees including graphic designers, copywriters, photographers, and content creators.
  • Assign work, provide feedback, and ensure deadlines are met for creative deliverables.
  • Support student sales assistants when applicable, providing mentorship and skill development in advertising sales and client management.
  • Maintain up-to-date records in sales systems and prepare reports for departmental and university stakeholders.
  • Oversees the Advertising Office budget, monitoring expenditures to ensure alignment with financial goals and compliance with university policies.
  • Ensure documentation of contracts, communications, and campaign metrics in line with university policy.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director on internal audits, budget reviews, and advertising strategy sessions.
  • Upholds and enforces established Advertising Office policies, including consulting student leadership for approval on ads that may raise ethical or content concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
