Advanced Technology for Surface Transportation (ATST) & Funding Intern
About The Position
HDR is seeking an intern to help expand its Advanced Technology for Surface Transportation (ATST) and funding services in the Midwest, with a focus on Missouri and Kansas. The position is part of the ATST and Funding Section in Kansas City, Missouri, and supports advanced technology projects across planning, engineering, design, integration, deployment, operations, and maintenance. Projects may involve intelligent transportation systems, traffic management systems, emerging vehicle technologies, electric vehicle infrastructure, grant writing, and geospatial analysis. The role is part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group and its employee-owned, collaborative culture.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Commitment to actively participating in HDR’s employee-owned culture.
Nice To Haves
- Preference is given to local candidates.
- Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Prefer two years completed toward a degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study or industry.
Responsibilities
- Provide support on intelligent transportation systems and traffic management system projects, including planning, engineering, design, integration, deployment, operations and maintenance, and communications.
- Support Automated, Connected, Electric, and Shared (ACES) vehicle and emerging technology projects.
- Support electric vehicle infrastructure planning and siting.
- Assist with grant writing.
- Perform geospatial analysis and mapping.
