About The Position

Hutco, Inc. is seeking an Advanced Shipfitter/Fabricator with at least 4 years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter. The role involves multi-pass tack welding and fabrication of structural assemblies, using complex structural drawings and blueprints. The position requires working in demanding environments, complying with OSHA regulations, and utilizing precision tools and equipment.

Requirements

Minimum of four years as a first-class Shipfitter in a commercial/naval setting (documented experience required).
Proficiency in multi-pass tack welding.
Ability to use oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
Comprehension of complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fractional dimensions.
Skills in laying off, assembling, and replacing structural piece parts, hull inserts, and penetrations.
Ability to work in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.
Familiarity with shipbuilding industry safety regulations.
Experience using vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns) and air carbon arc gouging.
Must pass the Multi-Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using the SMAW process with MIL-10718-M (A-5A) filler metal in Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions.
Must pass Visual Inspection of Weld Level I (six-hour assessment).
Must pass tests without prior training at the Newport News welding school.
