About The Position

The Raytheon office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) is responsible for the technical execution of all programs/contracts within the Strategic Business Units (SBUs). The OCE is also responsible for defining and prioritizing execution strategies and initiatives that reduce product cost, prevent EAC growth, and improve product manufacturability. The Design for Excellence (DFX) Lead role will report directly to the Advanced Products & Solutions (APS) Chief Engineer. They will be responsible for leading the integration & execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) requirements and capabilities across the APS portfolio, responsible for establishing NPI requirements in the program technical baseline and execution across technology development, pursuit-to-startup, product development, production, and sustainment phases of the engineering lifecycle. This is an onsite role and can be in either McKinney, TX or El Segundo, CA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience supporting production programs as a product engineering IPT Lead, Production Chief Engineer, and/or a Factory Operations Manager.
  • Experience developing product manufacturing work flows and value streams.
  • Program engineering team or functional leadership experience.
  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access after start.

Nice To Haves

  • Recognized subject matter expert (SME) in complex aerospace & defense system design, transition to production (TTP), and manufacturing.
  • 5 or more years supporting product development and transitions to manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in design to average unit production cost (AUPC).
  • Significant understanding of factory/manufacturing modeling and simulations.
  • Expert in Agile methods for production.
  • Top Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing a suite of design for excellence capabilities, including design to unit production cost (DTUPC), design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), design for manufacturing test (DFMT), and design for safety (DFS).
  • Applying the necessary systems and requirements is essential to transition and manufacture products from our supply base through internal factories.
  • Champion organizational/cultural change in a complex matrixed environment.
  • Lead cross-functional partnership across Engineering (Chief Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, and Test Architect), Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality on New Product Introductions.
  • Support the assessment and updates to Raytheon policies and processes to strategically shift all product development to this new direction for the business.
