About The Position

This is an OPS (Other Personnel Services) position with the Department of Health. The role involves providing advanced practice nursing care in a public health setting, focusing on women's health, family planning, and STD clients. The position requires performing various medical procedures, interpreting test results, prescribing medications, and overseeing specific clinics. The nurse will also serve as a preceptor for mid-level practitioners. The position is temporary and requires working at least 4 days per week, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There are no on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Current Florida or Multistate APRN/ Certified Nurse Midwife License.
  • FL driver’s license.
  • Ability to evaluate and treat patients in a public health setting involving the care of pregnant, family planning, and STD clients.
  • Ability to perform procedures related to pregnant, family planning, and STD care.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests and ensure correct documentation using electronic medical records.
  • Perform physical appraisals and routine gynecology exams for women’s health, STD clients, and other clinical services.
  • Provide outpatient care for maternity clients, including managing medical complications during pregnancy and interpreting antenatal testing.
  • Initiate, interpret, and evaluate laboratory results.
  • Prescribe medications following standards of care, including through Electronic Medical Records.
  • Perform colposcopies and establish plans of care based on findings.
  • Provide oversight to the Teen Clinic, which offers contraceptive services to teenagers.
  • Perform Family Planning services, including insertion and removal of long-acting reversible contraception (e.g., Nexplanon, Intrauterine Devices).
  • Serve as preceptor for mid-level practitioners (physician assistants and nurse practitioners in master level programs).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull at least 20 lbs., stand and walk 1-3 hours, sit 5-8 hours, in addition to bend, reach, balance, and kneel.
  • Ability to repetitively perform simple grasping, pushing, pulling, or use of fine manipulation skills.
