About The Position

The APP is responsible for assessing physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. Assist physicians in performing medical procedures, up to and including vital signs, nursing assessments, history and physical.

Requirements

  • Degree in Physician Assistant studies or Nurse Practitioner studies
  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Florida.
  • Must be credentialed to practice by Hospital Medical Board.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Performs in tactful and professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • APRN must have an Acute Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment.
  • Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff.
  • Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family.
  • Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.
  • Responsible for helping physicians in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Provides medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation in medical records.
  • Administers nursing assessments to include performing examinations, giving injections, and assessing a patient's health status.
  • Assess severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers.
  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • APP will provide high quality endocrine care to both hospitalized patients and outpatients at UHealth ambulatory clinics.
  • The APP will work collaboratively with endocrinologist and multidisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient outcome.
  • The APP will split their time equally between the hospital and outpatient practice.
  • Provides consultative services to hospitalized patients with endocrine related issues including diabetes management every morning, Monday through Friday.
  • Provides hospital discharge services by expanding post discharge follow-up diabetes clinic to help prevent readmissions and decrease mortality rates.
  • Educates patients and families about disease management, medication use, lifestyle modifications and follow-up care.
  • Assess, diagnosis and treat patients with diseases of the endocrine system.
  • Develops expertise in the management of patient with diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal and pituitary issues.
  • Focuses on prevention of complications of diabetes
  • Assists patients in monitoring blood glucose for medication control and adjustment for both insulin and noninsulin dependent diabetics.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and stay updated on best practice in endocrinology.
