About The Position

Cleveland Clinic Children’s offers a 12-month Pediatric Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship designed to transition Certified Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants into pediatric acute and critical care practice. The program develops clinical competency and role proficiency through supervised clinical training, mentorship, professional development, leadership training, and organizational enculturation. Fellows build the critical-thinking, diagnostic, and clinical skills needed to care for acutely and critically ill pediatric patients in a multidisciplinary, team-based model. Training begins with a boot camp and includes weekly protected didactic learning through case studies, lectures, and simulation, with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine. Fellows receive individualized instruction and progressively greater clinical responsibility under APP and physician experts. The program also includes professional-development work in APP education, quality improvement, research, or another approved scholarly activity. Anticipated clinical rotations are three months each in Hospital Medicine, the Pediatric Emergency Department, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, followed by a three-month Transition-to-Practice Phase. During the final phase, fellows enter an acute care service based on their interests, performance, departmental needs, and available full-time positions, and complete a specialty-specific orientation with mentorship and support. Employment after successful fellowship completion is not guaranteed; fellows may apply for open positions within Cleveland Clinic Children’s. The fellow is hired into a full-time, salaried position for no more than 12 months and learns the Advanced Practice Provider role under the supervision of an APRN/PA preceptor and/or physician preceptor. Fellows must comply with Cleveland Clinic policies, its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. The role involves collaboration with the healthcare team and patient care activities consistent with the fellow’s credentials, privileges, and supervision.
