About The Position

This is a full-time, thirteen-month clinical residency for board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) in the MUSC College of Nursing Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Technology Enhanced Residency (PARTNER). Designed for newly graduated PMHNPs, the residency develops expertise in integrated primary care behavioral health for children, adolescents, and adults, with a focus on rural and underserved communities in South Carolina. Care is delivered in person and through telehealth, including synchronous video platforms and an e-consult system. Beginning July 1, the residency is a 40-hour-per-week position structured as 80% clinical practice and 20% education and professional administrative activities. Residents build advanced competence and confidence in assessing, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic mental illnesses through psychopharmacological treatment and psychotherapy, and in managing psychiatric patients in primary care settings. The program includes one-on-one clinical mentorship, case reviews, small-group learning, didactic sessions, and training intended to extend knowledge and skills beyond graduate-level preparation. The role focuses on outpatient patients ages five through end of life. It includes in-person commitments in the Charleston area at least three days per week, so proximity to the area is necessary. The position reports to the CON Associate Dean for Practice, and the PMHNP is assigned a primary collaborating physician employed by MUSC. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae or resume, two letters of recommendation from professional experience or graduate program faculty, and a personal statement of no more than one page addressing their reasons for choosing mental health, career goals, and how the residency would support those goals.
