About The Position

New Hanover County's Health Department is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider with credentials as either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the clinic team. This position provides professional care to patients across a variety of clinic services, including Women's Preventive Health, Child Health, Family Planning, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) evaluation and treatment for women and men.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner program or an approved Physician Assistant Program and two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
  • Eligible to practice in North Carolina as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a public health clinic or primary care clinic managing reproductive health and sexual health with two years of experience as an APP.

Responsibilities

  • Provide family planning and sexually transmitted infection evaluation, treatment, and counseling.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and documenting care.
  • Develop and manage treatment plans, provide patient education, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Perform IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in required training programs and educational activities
  • Provides consultation and continued assessment of patient referred by expanded role nurses (ERNs), when requested
  • Functions independently in a variety of clinical services, and consults with supervising physician for management of complex cases
  • Supervising physician and APP collaboration will be conducted in accordance with current North Carolina laws and regulations
  • Respond to emergency and disaster situations and perform other duties within the scope of the position.
