About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive wound care services. The ideal candidate will have a background in wound care or surgery, though training is available for suitable candidates. The provider will manage approximately 12-18 patients daily, conducting inpatient assessments for acute and chronic wounds, ostomies, and incontinence. Responsibilities include developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans, ordering diagnostic tests, medications, dressings, and devices. Procedures such as wound debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, and biopsies will be performed. The role also involves monitoring patient progress, educating patients and families, and documenting care in the electronic medical record. Collaboration with the healthcare team, participation in quality improvement, and professional development are expected. Experience with hyperbaric chambers is preferred, with training available. The position is primarily in an outpatient wound care clinic, with potential for inpatient coverage. The provider will uphold the mission, vision, and values of OSF HealthCare.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing or physician assistant studies from an accredited program
  • Current Illinois license as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive inpatient assessments of patients with acute and chronic wounds, ostomies, and incontinence
  • Develop and implement evidence-based wound care treatment plans, including ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, medications, dressings, and devices
  • Provide wound debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, biopsies, and other procedures as indicated
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress and response to treatment
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on wound prevention, management, and self-care
  • Document patient encounters and interventions in the electronic medical record
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the health care team
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities
