About The Position

The Department of Surgery, Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work collaboratively with Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Attending Physicians in the delivery of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, with opportunities to participate in clinical research. The scope of practice will be broad and will include exposure to the operating room, inpatient units, emergency and consult services, and outpatient clinic settings.

Requirements

  • Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) (for Physician Assistant role)
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (for Physician Assistant role)
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB) (for Physician Assistant role)
  • Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) (for Nurse Practitioner role)
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) (for Nurse Practitioner role)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) (for Nurse Practitioner role)
  • Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) (for Nurse Practitioner role)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and managing new and established oral and maxillofacial surgery patients
  • Ordering, performing, and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests
  • Assisting with perioperative patient management
  • Serving as a liaison between the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service and other medical and surgical services
  • Patient and family education
  • Perioperative and discharge planning
  • Postoperative follow-up
  • Wound and surgical site management
  • Coordinating appropriate ancillary services to support comprehensive patient care
