The Advanced Practice Provider works within a collaborative practice agreement to provide advanced nursing care for patients in the acute care setting. In collaboration with the physician and other health care team members, they conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessments and mental status examinations. They diagnose and treat adults and young adolescents with a variety of psychiatric disorders utilizing evidence-based practices. They develop individualized treatment plans that may include psychopharmacologic management, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and coordination of community resources. They prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while evaluating treatment response and medication safety. They provide medication management and follow-up care for established patients. They assess patients for safety concerns, including suicide risk, homicide risk, and psychiatric emergencies, and initiate appropriate interventions when necessary. They collaborate with primary care physicians, psychologists, therapists, social workers, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. They maintain timely, accurate, and complete medical documentation in the electronic medical record and participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
