About The Position

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children’s Mercy Kansas City is the premier high-volume pediatric heart program in the Midwest, providing comprehensive care for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease from the fetal stage through young adulthood. Our nationally recognized team brings together board-certified pediatric cardiologists, congenital cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists, anesthesiologists, and advanced practice providers who work collaboratively to deliver exceptional patient care, advance translational research, and utilize the most innovative diagnostic and treatment technologies available. We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiology Consult Service in a dynamic inpatient consultative role. The APP serves as a key clinical resource for patients throughout Children’s Mercy, providing cardiology consultation for fetal health and complex cardiac deliveries, the Intensive Care Nursery, Pediatric and Cardiac Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, and inpatient medical and specialty services. The role also includes triaging calls from outside hospitals, referring providers, and families seeking cardiac expertise. The Cardiology Consult APP participates in daily patient care rounds and is responsible for evaluating and managing a broad range of pediatric cardiac conditions. Working independently or in collaboration with attending cardiologists, the APP interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies, including electrocardiograms (EKGs), echocardiograms, and advanced cardiac imaging. The provider synthesizes complex clinical information, develops differential diagnoses, formulates care recommendations, and helps coordinate treatment plans for patients across multiple care settings. In addition to direct patient care, the APP is responsible for consult documentation, participation in multidisciplinary care conferences, facilitation of second-opinion consultations, and providing cardiac-specific education to healthcare professionals, patients, and families. The APP serves as an important resource for residents and fellows and collaborates closely with the Heart Center’s many cardiac subspecialty teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care. This role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license in a highly collaborative, academically driven environment while caring for some of the most complex pediatric cardiac patients in the region. It is an ideal position for an APP who enjoys critical thinking, interdisciplinary teamwork, and the challenge of managing diverse and complex cardiovascular conditions in a leading pediatric heart center Advanced Practice Provider II (APP-II) provides proficient, comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. An APP II obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and family education. Each APP-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development. Requirements

  • Acute Care PNP required upon hire
  • Master's Degree and 1-2 years pediatric experience, required
  • APRNs must have RN compact license in their primary residency state or if they do not reside in a compact state both MO and KS single state RN license
  • APRNs must have MO and KS APRN licensure.
  • PA’s must have MO and KS PA licensure
  • National Board Certification required for state licensure
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
