About The Position

The Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP), including Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), is an integral member of the interdisciplinary palliative care team. The APP is responsible for providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses in inpatient settings. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, symptom management, and development of care plans within the APP’s scope of practice. The APP collaborates closely with physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care that emphasizes symptom relief and alignment of care with patient and family goals. The provider demonstrates service excellence, professionalism, and accountability, including awareness of the relationship between resource utilization, access to care, and overall quality outcomes. According to professional standards of care, performs a variety of advanced nursing / physician assistant functions. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)
  • Current and valid Physician Assistant License or Advanced Practice Nurse License in the State of Illinois or eligibility for licensing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Federal DEA registration and State of Illinois Controlled Substance License required.
  • Acute Care Certification is required for Nurse Practitioners.
