About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider, Oncology (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is an integral member of the oncology care team, responsible for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to a diverse population of patients seeking oncology services. The APP performs a variety of functions including assessment, diagnosis, and intervention within their scope of practice. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and imaging results. Provides ongoing evaluation of patients’ response to treatment and adjusts care plans as indicated. Educates patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and supportive care. Participates in clinical rounds, tumor boards, and interdisciplinary care conferences. Involved in lung cancer screening program, lung cancer clinic, and rapid diagnostic clinic. Performs ongoing communication and works to promote quality of care through collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other care team members, patients and families. Demonstrates service excellence and accountability through recognizing the direct relationship between cost-effective and efficient provision of care and services including the impact of access to care.

Requirements

  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology Experience and an Oncology Nursing Certification are preferred.
