About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider for OB Triage is responsible for promoting efficient throughput in the obstetrics triage care delivery area. This role involves promptly recognizing and managing maternal or fetal emergencies, effectively communicating patient status to referring providers, patients, and families, and comprehensively documenting clinical care. The provider will collaboratively implement evidence-based clinical protocols and process improvement tools, and engage other providers as needed for timely triage of OB patients. This position is a key member of the perinatal quality team, supported by the OB/Gyn Hospitalist, and facilitates the triage of all patients presenting for assessment to the unit. Success in this role is measured by timely turnaround times, prompt recognition of emergency conditions and initiation of therapies, and efficient patient disposition.

Requirements

  • PAs: Bachelor’s degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician’s Assistants are required.
  • NPs: Bachelor’s degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree.
  • Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
  • Credentialing must be obtained from Luminis Health Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS/EFM certification is required.
  • The applicant must have an PA-C, NP or CNM certification.
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Maryland and Board Certified.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of OBGYN, surgical, emergency, or critical care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and address medical problems specific to obstetric care, Antenatal testing and ultrasound appropriate for diagnostic assessment of fetal well being
  • First assist in C-sections if required to do so emergently.
  • Effectively request consultation of other specialties when indicated,
  • Demonstrates competence and skill while performing in the OB triage unit
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in the management of basic obstetrical and postpartum emergencies and complications.
  • Create diagnostically appropriate treatment plans,
  • Document and operationalize all medical evaluations, history, physical, diagnostic labs, imaging and procedures, treatments, outcomes, and referrals consistent with The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards, and evidence-based standards of care. Maintains documentation compliant with current coding and billing.
  • Functions professionally on an interdisciplinary team including nursing, residents, OB/Gyns, midwives and other advanced practice providers.
  • Utilizes appropriate chain-of-communication and communicates with specialties, including other APP’s, Medical directors, and nursing using TEAMSTEPPS principles.
  • Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.
  • Define, promote and model best practice in clinical operations that optimizes clinical space and personnel for efficient triage workflows.
  • Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines
  • Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
