About The Position

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department/Division/Program of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the inpatient setting on weekends. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Requirements

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
  • Wisconsin RN License
  • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date
  • DEA registration
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP) Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP) Family NP (FNP
  • Physician Assistant Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Training required in the first six months: AHA BCLS, AHA ACLS, DEA, ATLS (will train) and CITI Certification

  • Previous APP [specialty, procedural, or other APP skill] experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Trauma team.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the trauma/critical care surgery services.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • Attends daily rounds with faculty and Trauma physician team, presents 24-hour patient report.
  • Performs tertiary surveys.
  • Acts as a liaison for communication of care plans and discharge destinations from ICU to floor teams.
  • Attends care coordination rounds as able.
  • Participates in Trauma performance improvement activities to ensure the quality of care and effectiveness of service
