About The Position

The Department of Medicine – Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the Hospitalist Medicine Inpatient service by providing initial and ongoing assessment and management of urgent care issues related to internal medicine or critical care needs located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital. This role will be responsible for the admission of patients to the medical teams and to provide on call coverage for patients admitted to the hospitalist service (cross coverage). The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. The Ideal Candidate has a desire to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care to a broad range of patients and illness in an inpatient/hospital setting.

Requirements

  • Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Wisconsin RN License
  • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • AHA BLS, DEA
  • Acute Care preferred, Adult or FNP considered
  • Physician Assistant Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
  • Certification by NCCPA
  • AHA BLS, DEA
  • Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing (for Advanced Practice Nurse)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies (for Physician Assistant)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital medicine or inpatient experience preferred
  • Clinical rotations in internal or hospitalist medicine a plus

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring medical intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Hospital Service
  • Provide initial and ongoing assessment and management of urgent care issues at night related to internal medicine or critical care needs
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the General Internal Medicine- Hospitalist service
  • Facilitate and communicate with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission
  • Evaluate quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard
  • Acquire information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identify normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status
  • Order and interpret lab and diagnostic tests
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans
  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents
  • Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate
  • Educate, counsel, and assist patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors
