About The Position

This role focuses on providing high-quality, patient-centric care within an inpatient neurosurgery setting. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive neurological assessments, daily rounding, performing histories and physicals, managing new consults, admissions, and discharges. The provider will collaborate with attending neurosurgeons to develop and implement treatment plans, prepare patients for surgery, manage postoperative care, and facilitate smooth care transitions. Key duties involve ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and documenting all patient care. The position also includes patient and family education, performing procedures alongside residents, and managing a broad range of acute and complex neurological cases in a collaborative environment with neurosurgeons, residents, other advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams. The schedule involves three 12-hour shifts per week (5:45 AM – 6:15 PM), with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987.
Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.
BLS/ACLS Certified.
Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.
Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
Provider shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.

Responsibilities

Providing high-quality patient care and a personalized, patient-centric experience aligned with each patient’s preferences, goals, and needs.
Primarily inpatient neurosurgery care, including comprehensive neurological assessments, daily rounding, histories and physicals, new consults, admissions, and discharges.
Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending neurosurgeons.
Preparing patients for surgery, managing postoperative care, and supporting smooth care transitions across the continuum.
Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, including laboratory work and imaging, prescribing medications, and documenting all care provided.
Providing patient and family education to enhance understanding of diagnoses, treatment options, and long-term management plans.
Performing procedures alongside residents.
Exposure to a broad range of acute and complex neurological cases.
Collaborative work environment with neurosurgeons, residents, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
