About The Position

St. Charles Medical Group (SCMG) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for its Gastroenterology department. This role involves providing medical care to patients under the general supervision of the Clinical Division Director and direct supervision of a designated physician. The APP will be responsible for evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and documentation of patient encounters, primarily in an outpatient setting, but also assisting with inpatient consults and rounding. The position requires coordination of various medical services, monitoring patient care plans, and making appropriate referrals. The APP will work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with at least 36 hours dedicated to patient contact. The schedule may vary, and participation in a shared clinic call rotation (evenings, weekends, holidays) is expected.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner course of study and certification as appropriate to the incumbent’s license.
  • Complete annual fire/safety, etc. education in-services as required.
  • Attend mandatory educational offerings as described in SCHS policies/procedures and/or as required by other regulatory bodies.
  • Complete annual CME as required to maintain license and appropriate Board certification.
  • Complete in a timely manner assigned Computer Based Learning modules.
  • Unrestricted Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon.
  • Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner requires AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB certification.
  • If Physician Assistant, ability to establish and maintain a Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB.
  • Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
  • Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • If provider will practice sedation, moderate or deep, ACLS certification is also required.
  • Experience using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) software.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System.
  • Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.
  • Strong team working and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with trauma and acute care surgery and/or critical care.
  • Epic EMR software experience
  • Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted to provider by Medical Staff Services at SCHS Inpatient locations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain pertinent medical history and appropriate physical evaluations.
  • Order and interpret pertinent lab and/or x-ray studies and convey the information obtained to the supervising Physician.
  • Perform and document preprocedural and preadmission histories and physicals as well as discharge summaries.
  • Facilitate referrals to community health facilities, agencies, and resources.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and initiate evaluative and treatment procedures necessary in life-threatening situations and immediately report to supervising physicians.
  • Interpret and report on diagnostic tests in a timely manner in compliance with St Charles defined Standards (within 72 hours for Urgent and 7 days for Routine diagnostics).
  • Support the delivery, measurement and improvement of quality health measures as identified by SCMG.
  • Consult with physicians, nursing staff, and technicians to evaluate standards of patient care provided and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Complete clinical records in a timely manner fostering good communication between health care providers and providing for continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Prescribe medications within the scope of their practice and Oregon law.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of their practice and the law, under the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Deliver customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Participate in St Charles physicians’ meetings and assist in policy and clinical practice guidelines formation for St Charles and Physician’s practice.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Participate in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Deliver first-rate customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, and is timely, efficient and accurate, and courteous.
  • Educate, counsel, and assist patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients/customers in a caring way.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings.
