About The Position

In accordance with professional standards of care and adhering to the corporate philosophy of OSF Medical Group (OSFMG), the Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant is responsible for Gastroenterology care, including comprehensive GI-focused assessments, daily rounding, histories and physicals, new consults, admissions, and discharges. This role supports a rapidly growing GI service line, providing clinical partnership to the full-time gastroenterologist as procedure volume and patient demand continue to expand. The provider will assist in managing gastroenterology patients in the clinic, helping ensure timely access, continuity of care, and high-quality follow-up. They will also provide inpatient rounding support on GI consults as needed to maintain efficient workflow and comprehensive patient management. Collaboration with colorectal surgery is expected, by assisting with GI-related office visits and supporting endoscopic care needs within the scope of practice. The role involves developing and implementing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons. Responsibilities include preparing patients for endoscopic or interventional GI procedures, managing post-procedure care, and supporting smooth transitions across the continuum of care. The provider will order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory studies, abdominal imaging, stool studies, and GI-specific diagnostics; prescribe medications; and document all care provided. Patient and family education to enhance understanding of GI diagnoses, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and long-term disease management is also a key component. The provider will perform GI-related procedures alongside physicians, consistent with scope of practice and privileging (ex. paracentesis, NG tube placement, PEG tube management). This position offers a collaborative work environment with gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, residents, advanced practice providers, dietitians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987.
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics.
  • BLS/ACLS Certified.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.
